  3. I want to go back to the scholarly thing just for a 
  4. minute because the other thing that happened was 
  5. there is no way in which one can simply sit down, 
  6. take McLuhan‚Äôs works and answer that famous 
  7. question of Tom Wolfe: ‚ÄúWas he right? What if he 
  8. is right?‚Äù No you can‚Äôt quite do it that way. My 
  9. take is this: I think that McLuhan‚Äôs value lies in the 
  10. scope of his vision. His value doesn‚Äôt lie in the 
  11. precision of every particular thing he said. What he 
  12. gives us is a way of looking at these changes, and 
  13. making sense of them, both in terms of the large-
  14. scale historical picture in which we find ourselves
